Poetry Recital Next Week...

Poetry Recitation
Year 0 and 1 students

Dear Parents,

Your child, along with all other New Entrant and Year 1 children, will be taking part in the Kiwi Team Poetry Recitation. Every child at this level is expected to memorise a poem and to recite it in front of their class, and, if they are confident enough, in front of a larger audience.  The class finals will be held on Wednesday the 2nd of September 2015 at 14:00.  Parents are welcome to attend these class finals.
Students will be judged on the following criteria:

Ø  Recites the poem from memory
Ø  Addresses the audience confidently (stance, eye contact)
Ø  Articulation
Ø  Volume and pace
Ø  Use of expression and personal style

Each classroom teacher will select some representatives from their classes to take part in the Kiwi Team finals. The finals will be held in the school hall on Friday the 4th of September 2015 at 11:30.  Once again families are welcome to attend these.

This year the Kiwi team teachers have selected some poems to choose from. Students can choose one poem and practise the poem as a regular part of their homework. He/she will be practising at school too but family support is essential in the development of confidence and expression.

PB4L - Being a positive role model in our classroom

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at making good choices in our classroom and part of this has been looking at being a positive role model to others. On Friday 3 children in the class are chosen to receive a certificate to celebrate their success at demonstrating the focus of the week in the classroom.

Sunflower Art

We have been looking at how painters portray sunflowers in art form. We looked at the famous painter Vincent Van Gogh and his famous painting about sunflowers, then we painted our own versions. The final result has really brightened up our classroom!

Room 6 are becoming gardeners!

Our Inquiry focus for Term 3 is looking at what plants need to grow. To practise all the things we have been learning we are growing some bean plants in the classroom. Our next step is to grow sunflowers and see who can grow the biggest one in our class!

Here is the children in Room 6 planting their bean plants...
